NOTE: Last two cuts are the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 with a cheap fader, just experimenting with an idea, didn’t like it much though.
Canon 85mm f/1.8
Tiffen IR 1.8
ProRes @ 800 ISO
Color: Davinci Resolve w/a LUT I’ve been working on.
Handheld but this time I had my monitor. 85’s pretty telephoto!
Thoughts: I wish this lens looked like the 70-200/2.8, but it isn’t too bad. I definitely am not a fan of wide open performance on the 2.5K camera, by 2.8 it begins to clear up and by 4 or so it’s decent. I did add sharpening to the video, a mild amount so that it at least seems a bit natural.
Color is Canon color, very specific, it still remains through the grade, just sort of the Canon look which I’m 50/50 on. In the case of the Canon look mixing with Blackmagic, I like it much more than Canon on Canon, its likely because I’m able to balance it.
I’m not sure if I’m going to keep this lens… it’s a toss up, mainly because I need an 85mm, but I want something that I feel confident shooting with.
If only I could afford a Zeiss 50, 60, 85, 100, and 135! I’d be set for everything.
