This is just a test of Juan Melara’s Blockbuster Grade in Davinci Resolve.

Nothing particularly special about the story here.. I just prefer some sort of narrative over just random shots when doing test shoots. Forgive my abysmal acting.. I definitely don’t belong in front of the camera.. But you gotta do what you gotta do when you’re the only one home at the time.. :)

Nice work. I’m curious. I have a BMCC EF and I am still on the fence on lenses. I wanted to know your thoughts on the Canon vs. Rokinon glass. Also do you have the Tokina 11-16?

Did you shoot this RAW or ProRes? ISO 800? Thanks.

I do not have a Tokina 11-16 because of the infinity focus issue. Since none of the lenses I own have the same issue I decided against sending my camera in to get it adjusted and therefore passed on the Tokina. If I need a really wide lowlight shot then I will just pull out my Canon 6D.

I have had some Canon L glass in the past and even Zeiss. I have watched a lot of other people’s comparisons between Rokinon and other glass and they hold up really well against the competition. Particularly the 35mm. It is very sharp wide open and CA isn’t too bad. Plus they have cine versions with declicked apertures and I believe a longer throw on the focus ring. When your talking about quality for the price… you really can’t beat a Rokinon/Bower/Samyang… all the same company in case you didn’t know. I have really enjoyed their lenses and would recommend them to anyone. However, I would say that if you could only buy one lens.. I would probably go with the Canon 17-55 F2.8. It is a great range and it is pretty sharp wide open. Not Full Frame compatible though.

Loved this, great work! What is the “blockbuster grade” and how do I get it?

How did you integrated AE to your pipeline? How was the workflow? did you grade then go to AE for the compositing or did you render your comp footage and graded? Thanks for Sharing
